Tips to Make Skunk Odor Tolerable

  • If you have Vicks vapor rub (the kind you use when you're sick), put some under your nose. This will help you deal with the smell until you get it under control!
  • Boil Apple Cider Vinegar on the stove.
  • Make some coffee!
  • Have a cocktail (or two!)

*These tips won't completely get rid of the skunk odor, but it should help while you wait for the Skunk Odor Neutralizer!

Removing Skunk Smell from Dogs (or cats)

  • Make sure your pet is up-to-date with vaccines.
  • Treat your pet as soon as possible. If the skunk spray dries, it will be much harder to treat.
  • Brush or comb the affected areas on your pet. Removing loose hair helps to reduce the smell more quickly. Spray product on the brush after.
  • Add Wet dog12 ounces Skunk Odor Neutralizer to your pet's bath water and shampoo when you bathe them. Spray solution directly on their coat. Since the skunk spray is oily, you may also want to use a degreasing shampoo or Dawn Dish Soap.
  • Bathe just the affected area to avoid spreading the smell.
  • Examine the eyes to make sure the sulfuric spray from the skunk spray did not get in them. If they are red and watery, contact your veterinarian. In rare cases, your pet may be blinded for a short period of time, but it will not last. Spray in the eyes can be very painful. Follow the Skunk First Aid link above for tips.
  • Don't forget about your pet's collar and leash. Wash them thoroughly before putting them back on your pet. Use Skunk Odor Neutralizer in the wash water and spray product directly on the surfaces.
  • If your pet gets wet, the skunk odor may return. Spray Skunk Odor Neutralizer directly on your pet.

Tips for Removing Skunk Smell from Your Home

  • Shampoo the carpets: Add 12 oz Skunk Odor Neutralizer in your carpet shampooer.
  • Laundry: Add 2 to 4 oz to your laundry with your regular soap to wash your clothes and towels that have skunk odor.
  • Fogging: If the smell has absorbed into furniture, consider using a fogger to apply micron sized droplets of Skunk Odor Neutralizer in every nook and cranny in your home. You can also fog under the house where skunks often make their home. Tank sprays with a fine mist also work well.
  • HVAC System: A fogger can be set up adjacent to the intake register and the fan turned on to disburse the fog though the HVAC system into the entire house. Make sure to take the filter out first before you fog!
  • Wash Water - Add 12 ounces Skunk Odor Neutralizer to 1 gallon of water to wash items affected by skunk odor.
